Our facility is set up to offer a large variety of activities catering for the needs of our diverse clientele. On the ground, we offer various Group Challenges, and in the trees, our unique "High Elements" climbing challenge. In general, groups coming to the UBC Ropes Course experience both types of activities.

GROUP CHALLENGES

The group engages in a series of fun problem-solving activities on the ground which enhances the team's ability to think about the team's needs versus individual needs. Then, the group progresses to more challenging tasks that may take place anywhere from 1 to 8 feet off the ground. Each activity is designed with a specific learning outcome, be it "respect", "support", "acknowledgement" or "fun". We generally start off with simple challenges that increase the group's energy, relieves tension, and begins the creative thinking process. The groups then engage in more intensive challenges which take place a few feet off the ground and involve the idea of perceived risk. This perceived risk greatly enhances trust within a team, and engages the group both physically and mentally.

HIGH ELEMENTS

If you are interested, the UBC Ropes Course also offers you a chance to participate on our High Elements which takes place anywhere from 5 to 50 feet in the air. The High Elements consist of beams, wires, and platforms set up high in the trees. The course is designed with the team in mind, and provides a role for everyone. Everybody choosing to climb will be properly equipped with the necessary safety equipment. You may opt to stay on the ground and help with other climbers' success and safety.

SAFETY POLICY

Safety is our highest priority. All our equipment is routinely inspected, maintained and replaced. Our staff's main concern is your emotional and physical wellbeing. If you find some of the tasks unsettling or intimidating, our trained professional staff and support network of peers can assist you in expanding your limits in an emotionally and physically safe environment. However, nobody is forced to participate in an activity that they do not want to.
